BROOK FOREST VOICES AUTHORS

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Sri Chinmoy was born in 1931 in the Bengal province of what was then India. After spending twenty years in a spiritual community, he came in New York City in 1964. In 1970, at the request of the then Secretary-General U Thant, Sri Chinmoy began conducting meditations and other programs for peace for the staff and delegates of the United Nations. Until his passing in 2007, Sri Chinmoy worked tirelessly to promote a world based on oneness. In one of his talks at the United Nations, he said “Peace does not mean the absence of war. Outwardly two countries may not wage war, but if they inwardly treasure aggressive thoughts, hostile thoughts, that is as good as war. Peace means the presence of harmony, love, satisfaction and oneness.” He felt that people could gain this satisfaction and oneness by being inspired to follow their dreams, and he sought to demonstrate this through his own prolific output of poetry, music, literature and art.
